If we look for fairness in this world, we will always be disappointed. I have yet to witness it in any part of life, whether socially, economically, or otherwise, fill in the blank. It just doesn’t exist. For me, it’s a fact that the older the world gets, the more unfairness is seen. It’s best to forget the notion of fairness and accept the world for what it is, unfair. After all, it’s the way of the world.
For Christians, we understand why the world is constantly unfair. We know why impartial and just treatment of people, free from discrimination, bias, dishonesty, and such, again, fill in the blank, are the characteristics of this world. It’s because it’s the world. It’s worldly, and its attributes are inconsistent with our Creator's standards. It’s that simple. He knows best, but we have to want to know what He does, or I should say, what He has taught us, and go after it wholeheartedly.
Instead of seeking fairness, seek God’s righteousness; that is where the worldly characteristics are absent, or at least greatly diminished. Let’s be honest, not all of God’s people, and none of the world is seeking His righteousness. The cliche "be the change you want to see in the world” is more than a fuzzy phrase; it’s a Spiritual truth. The only way to contentment and peace is found in Christ Jesus. He defines what it is and how it looks. The problem with accepting His truth is that humans have natural, habitual inclinations to do things their way. That is where things go wrong, and have for millennia.
If we want fairness? We must come out of the world, seek the righteousness of God, make fairness part of our character, and mete it out in our lives daily. We must be the change we want to see in the world, and, even more, be the change God wants us to be, a change God commands us to be in the world.
